Before the chance of a lifetime, The Selection, America Singer was a “Five”. Which means she and her family were just three steps away from bottom of “the Illea”. Fives are only allowed to be artists. Meaning that the future of the America Singer’s life was written even before she was born. America Singer does not complain about that life at all if her lover “Aspen” who is a “Six” is with her. Unfortunately, in Illea marriying with a man whose class is lower than her is strictly resticted. But not impossible. This little posibility was enough for America but not for Aspen. When the letter came America was sure that she won’t attend “The Selection”; however, after their break up she decided to go just because the food and the money which will be provided to their family.
